Ragtime is a syncopated style of music that evolved from the earlier cakewalk style during late 1890s. It took many forms but piano ragtime is perhaps the form that has survived until this day.
The ragtime piano craze in the US lasted from 1897 to about 1923 when it was already superseeded by stride piano (from 1915).
The list below contains rags composed by all major ragtime composers as well as some representative examples of quality rags by less well-known ones.
